I’ve always been puzzled by restrictions placed on terminal patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and other similar venues. It seems so inconsequential – and as we see here, potentially even a final gift – to allow the dying their vices on the way out. When my time comes, a little coffee vodka, please, or if available perhaps some Advocaat.

What makes the mainstream news, of course, are fights and ill-behaved fans and players. More common, I think, are the gestures of respect shown here. Doesn’t matter what sport, doesn’t matter what countries are involved, good sportsmanship transcends all divides.

Honestly the best take-away is a quote at the very end of the Washington Post’s article:

Indeed.
These teens didn’t waste a moment, springing into action when they saw a 5-year-old boy slip off of a cliff and into a fast-moving river.

It’s all too easy to write off “today’s kids” whenever we hear some of the stories that make the news. That would simply be wrong. As Paul Harvey used to say, “Wash your ears out with this” — a story that represents what I believe is actually more common in today’s youth than we might realize.

After the story a couple of days ago about the 4 year old enjoying the heck out of a acrobatic flight, I just couldn’t pass up this story when I came across it. This is the centenarian I want to be… right down to the spiked tea. 🙂
