A constant diet of negative news is bad for you. It can “…exacerbate or contribute to the development of stress, anxiety, depression and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).”
Add to that the current rush to publish and we find much of that negative news often flat-out wrong, or seriously misrepresented. Not only is it negatively affecting our wellbeing, but much of what we’re reacting to isn’t even true!
I know it’s been affecting me, so I’ve decided to try something. Each day I go out and look for one story with a positive bent. Just one. One that’s more-or-less current, and from a reliably accurate source, to boot.
And I share it here.
News of humanity making progress. News of people doing good.(*) Stories to inspire and give hope. Curated from my personal online wanderings (so expect a little tech and the occasional Corgi), it’s an exercise I do daily for myself, and now for you.
A small drop in the bucket, perhaps, but an important reminder that beneath all the noise and consternation, there’s still a lot of good stuff happening.
Not all news is bad.
Email Subscription
You’ll notice there’s an email subscribe form over there on the right on every page. Sign up and you’ll get a new story from Not All News Is Bad in your inbox every morning. Just that simple.
Note: just like the pages here on the website, the email will contain the headline, a quote, perhaps a picture, a few words of my commentary, and a link to the story at its original source. I’m not republishing anyone’s content, so you’ll need to click through to read the full story if it sounds like something of interest to you.
I’ll have comments enabled here as well. Unlike most of those original sources, commentary here will be moderated to keep the trolls out. This is a place for positivity.
For those so inclined, Not All News is Bad has a Facebook Page where a link to each story here shows up daily, and there’s an RSS feed if you prefer: https://notallnewsisbad.com/feed.
Support
Not All News Is Bad is completely free, and I’m currently testing on-site advertising.
Not All News Is Bad is a project of, and in a sense, sponsored by my company, Puget Sound Software, LLC, but you may know it better as Ask Leo!. You can help support projects like this by becoming a patron of Ask Leo!. My Patreon FAQ also lists additional ways you can show your support.
There’s no requirement that you do anything at all. My goal here is simply to remind people that behind all the negative noise, there’s still a lot of good stuff happening. If that brightens your day maybe share it with someone and I’ll have accomplished what I set out to do.
