The station — known by its call sign, K2GSG — is taking messages known as “radiograms” to send down to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, which has been mostly without power since Hurricane Maria struck the island.

I find this cool on a couple of levels: one, they’re helping Puerto Rico in a very important and tangible way, and second, they’re learning about amateur radio and how it can be a lifeline in an emergency.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban loaned the team plane to Mavs guard J.J. Barea so he could bring supplies to his native Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.

While he may be controversial in some circles, actions like this can actually make a difference to people in need, and is very encouraging to see.

The Do It In A Dress campaign is a fundraiser for the charity One Girl, which provides scholarships to girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda, and makes schools safer through initiatives such as building toilet facilities.
