In early December, the Parrett family met and fell in love with a stray dog while visiting family in Texas. The family had to leave it behind so they could fly home-but were reunited again on Christmas Day.

Craig Elston, stranded at his barbershop, welcomed 40 people into his business on Friday night to give them shelter from the blizzard. Nearly 30 remained through Saturday, the blizzard’s second night.

Dr. Steve Lome, a cardiologist in Monterey, California, performed CPR on two people in cardiac arrest at a half-marathon. He also finished the race.
